English Title: Lovesick Ellie
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Shoujo
Author: Fuji Momo
We all have our hidden fantasies and hobbies. Some are just way too extreme or embarrassing that we wouldn’t definitely want other people to find out about it. If so, why do we keep indulging ourselves in those fantasies and hobbies then? Simple. It’s because we’re having fun. Despite the fact that people would most likely think that we’re weird for doing such things, we keep doing it anyway because that’s what we are and being weird is not such a hideous thing, as long as not we’re not doing something bad, of course.
Eriko Ichimura spends her high school days in complete obscurity. Her sole hobby is staring at handsome, smooth-spoken Akira Oumi, and tweeting her daily fantasies under the screen name “Lovesick Ellie.” One fateful day, she accidentally bears witness to Oumi-kun’s true self—and if that weren’t enough, he sees her mortifying Twitter, too! Follow along with a plain, perverted girl, a two-faced boy, and their curious romance!
Just like 90% of all the shoujo manga that I have read, this one’s about a popular guy and a girl, who is basically a nobody. Yes, it’s pretty common. I know that, but I still like it. Most shoujo manga uses that scenario as a part of the plot, but they all have their differences that makes them unique from each other.
In Koiwazurai no Ellie, even though the girl, Eriko Ichimura, is just someone that even her own classmates do not know about, she’s still unique, which is the reason why she became the heroine of this manga. On the other hand, the guy, Akira Oumi, is basically like a prince. Perfect, cool, handsome, smart, and kind. However, our main heroine here is not some shy girl who is completely uninterested in our guy, like in other stories. She is really in love with Akira Oumi, which I know is not such a rare scenario in love stories. I will not be able to give you an evidence that will tell you that there is still something different and unique about this story without giving spoilers, so I’ll leave that for you to find out.
I love the characters because they all have their distinct and cute characteristics. I also liked the way they were drawn. So if you’re like me, who somehow considers the graphics in a manga, then I can assure you that this one’s drawn nicely, at least according to my preferences. Though I think you’ll find the art style cute, too.
Favorite Character: Akira Oumi (Duh, he’s totally my type. Plus, he’s a tsundere lololol)

10/10 The story is still ongoing but it has been a few months since it was updated. Anyway, it is one of those romance stories that made me squeal so I’m really happy that Koiwazurai no Ellie made me feel like I also want to be in love. You should DEFINITELY check this one out. You’ll fall in love with the story and with the characters. Akira’s mine, though.
